Transportation and Storage

First Person Narratives

grantking.jpg (17230 bytes) Moving Oil was His Business

Grant King spent 50 years in the oil business, the last 35 of those with Gibson Petroleum whose trucks, terminals and pipelines store and move millions of cubic meters of oil daily

Grant King, born in Lloydminster, began his career right out of high school with Husky Oil, mostly in drilling and production.  In 1961, he joined Gibson's.  At the time, large volumes of oil still moved by rail tanker cars, but Grant was part of the trend toward truck transportation.  He was responsible for their truck's distinctive yellow colour that they still bear today.

He also supervised terminals, large collection points where oil is collected for introduction to long distance pipelines.  One of those sites is at Hardisty, Alberta, the point that receives the production of the Lloydminster Upgrader.
